Slap-dash albacore Sushi night!

Easier and more fun than you may think. Assemble your favorite ingredients and use your joint-rolling skills from college! If you haven’t just sliced it and eaten it all raw, this is a fun and tasty way to enjoy your albacore tuna loin.

Ingredients:

  • Sushi rice

  • At least 5 sheets of nori (1 package should do you)

  • Fillings of your choice! Here’s what we used:

    • thinly sliced cucumber (legnthwise)

    • Carrots

    • mango

    • avocado

    • scallions

    • cilantro

    • toasted sesame seeds

  • Albacore tuna loin, sliced into relatively thin strips.

    • I also took the “scraps” and mixed a little bowl of mayo and sriracha for my spicy tuna rolls

  • large cutting board, small dish of water, and a good sharp knife

  • soy sauce, pickled ginger, wasabi

METHOD:

  1. Cook your sushi rice first, and then let it cool.

  2. Prep your veggies

  3. Lay out a sheet of nori and press rice on the lower 3/4 of it, leaving a top section free of rice so you can seal it like a…home rolled cigarette. Use your sushi spoon to spread it around, not too thick.

  4. lay out a thin row of toppings on the bottom quarter of the sheet, then gently roll it all up. When you get to the top, dip your hands in the little water bowl, wet the bare nori, and then roll it over to stick on the roll. Squieeze as you go.

  5. You’ll get better and tighter as you go along.

  6. Slice in half with your sharp knife, then make more slices, and arrange on a plate.

  7. Look at you go!
