Kirk has a new novel out and he can’t wait for you to meet these characters—a confused trout with a big heart, an intellectual bullhead, a killer raccoon, a drunken deer and a forgotten boy trapped in institutional purgatory.
Unlike his first book, this is not a guide. It’s a throwback to the great, family-read-aloud epics we used to devour—think Holes, Watership Down, The Outsiders, Charlotte’s Web. It follows a trout, a troubled boy and a cast of hilariously vexed (talking) animals who attempt to stop a river from being dammed, in order to save their ecosystem.
It’s a story about how saving nature is, ultimately, how we save ourselves.
